So…idolator.com posted a note about a possible “Feedback” SXSW showcase that could include Battles as one of the five bands to play. The host? None other than Rachel Ray herself. Battles is a “staple of her ipod,” according to the source.

You know, I got to give it up to Battles. If they know the way to reach the people, it’s through the Food Network. I’d cook with John Stainer any day.

In other SXSW news, Austinist gave it up on a quick list of rumor/confirmations. Here’s who cought the eye of RNB: Breeders, British Sea Power, Bun B, The Cool Kids, The Cribs, Destroyer, Eugene Mirman, N.E.R.D., Q-Tip, R.E.M.,Tapes N Tapes, Uffie, Vampire Weekend (really?), and Yacht

Before you start getting physical, just tell yourself that “Yes, my favorite new band is coming to Austin,” so yes, not every band is listed. I will see you with the Lone Star keg, and hate you by Sunday. Peace.

A Spoon Full of Diplo

Hey fiction people: Buttoned-up Austin rockers Spoon took a cruise with Diplo for a remix on “Don’t You Evah.” The Merge website has it for sale here. Proceeds go to the Texas Criminal Justive Coalition. Pretty cool, seeming that I never saw Jim Eno or Britt Daniel at the probation office before.

Did you know:

Liars or The Lips?

Angus Andrew can get a little crunk. Pitchfork stated that Angus is having pretty nasty back pains, and this can have some suck-like qualitites. The No Age/Liars tour is hitting Mohawk in February (the same month as The Black Lips‘ Emos show), and well…hate to say it but there’s good and bad in this. Definitely not evil…

So what show are you cruising to, that is, if they happen to land on the same date?

Crystal Castles/Health Tour ‘08

The Crystal Castles/Health tour has a gap in the schedule. March 12-16, actually. I think it’s safe to say they’re heading this way for SXSW. Sounds good. “Crimewave” is all over the radio lately.

Sage Francis filled us all in on how to get more popular with your band. It seems companies are out there trying to sell the service of upping your friend count to the hundreds of thousands. What a job.

Sage said “no” to more coolness, and according to Done Waiting, did everyone a favor and hooked it up with a price guide on their message board. In case you’re desparate:

$25 for a thousand plays/views for one day only

Emo’s Hot (Cold) as Shit in January

Totally a cold month here in Austin. Especially for Emo’s Outside shows. However they all slayed. Dan Deacon tantalized your electro-jive talk weirdness. Baltimore has got it goin’ on lately. What is it called again? Wham City? We need a new name for ATX, besides…ATX.

Faceless Werewolves @ Emo’s Free Week ‘08

Emo’s Free Week was tight, too. TTTT…TTToo cold at the Prom Nite/Faceless Werewolves show. Thank goodness Prom Nite sold gloves and earwarmers. Nice. Good sets from both though.

Les Savy Fav @ Emo’s 01/08

Last, but not least, Brooklyn heros Les Savy Fav turned the Emo’s outside crowd into “The Honey Bees.” Yes, Tim was in full effect: inhaling helium btw verses, wearing about 5 or 6 shirts, a hawk mask, hoping around in his usual chaotic manner. Definitely a sucked-if-you-missed it show. Wasn’t that cold, b/c most of Austin was there. Fatal Flying Guilloteens chopped heads off as well. I think they had a different guitarist though.

We Back Motha@#$%a’, We Back!

Ahh better now…Let’s see, so it’s 2008 and all. Stay posted for some clips from Les Savy Fav at Emos and of course the Yeasayer/MGMT show that will pull every musical soul out of their efficiency and into the inside room.

Liars is also on the calendar for Mohawk outside. Some folks around town have been talking about how the ‘Hawk is getting kind of crammed. At the Vampire Weekend show, which was inside, I must admit that we had to do our share of shoving to get to a visually appealing spot. However, when I saw Matt and Kim outside, it seemed like there was plenty of room.

Anyways, Emo’s Free Week ‘08 is coming up cat daddys, and you know what it iiiis. Thursday, set it off with Prom Nite and Faceless Werewolves – other badasses carry the torch into the weekend: Zykos, Lions, Car Stereo (Wars), etc. You get the drift…also, The Hollywood Gossip performs their first show on Monday in the lounge with Pleasant Grove. Whatcha’ gonna do player?
